Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health
Research is clear that addressing behavioral health challenges early in a child’s life promotes a better trajectory for health and behavioral health through adulthood. The Center of Excellence is actively engaged in addressing children’s socioemotional health in early childhood (0 to 5 years) by identifying the factors that positively and negatively influence infant and toddler social and emotional development and by improving access to healthy environments and needed services for the youngest in the population. This includes building awareness that infants and young children have mental health needs and developing supports across the continuum of care of behavioral health services, including prevention and early intervention. The Center of Excellence contributes to the growing field of infant and early childhood mental health through research and evaluation, policy analysis, and workforce development and training.
